Ian S. Walmsley, President and CEO of Higher Level LLC, has 14 years of experience in the technology industry. Having worked locally in the industry since graduating High School, Ian has extensive knowledge of Microsoft and Linux systems, networking including Cisco routers and firewalls, and Network Security; specifically Penetration Testing. Ian has obtained his INFOSEC Security Certification from the NSA, and will be graduating in 2010 with a BS in Computer Engineering, specializing in Network Security. At the age of 15, Ian organized the signing of 3,000+ signatures in an effort to force TCI (a former Des Moines Cable Company) to put MTV back on its channel lineup. This evolved into an internship a local radio station, KKDM, and to the formation of a start-up Internet Service Provider, Power Surge Technologies. His first experience of being an entrepreneur came at the age of 16, contributing technical solutions to the company that was one of the first on the internet to offer web, mail, and ftp hosting solutions to every-day customers. The success of the business allowed for its sale in 1998.
After a hiatus from the business world, Ian launched Higher Level Consulting (the business consulting outfit of Higher Level LLC) in 2006. The company grew from one client to many clients over the next two years. In 2008, Ian went full time with the company and has seen the company grow tremendously.
In addition to running the business, Ian writes for Mobile Beat Magazine (www.mobilebeat.com) and has been published internationally. Ian also is a member of the New Iowa Entrepreneur Coalition where he devotes his time to expanding and promoting small business within the state of Iowa.
Ian is married to his lovely wife Tara Y. Walmsley, resides in Elkhart, Iowa and serves on the city’s Planning and Zoning Committee.
